About us
Chicago stone fabrication, with nothing beautiful left behind.
Our story
Third Coast Stone is a Chicago stone fabrication facility. Our name comes from the Great Lakes, America's third coast.
Every day we do quartz fabrication for Chicago homes, cutting custom countertops from quartz, including American-made Cambria, and Neolith. And every day, we're left with stone remnants too beautiful to throw away.
The problem
of every countertop slab is wasted
When we fabricate custom countertops, most people don't realize that 30–40% of the slab is wasted. The cutoffs are simply too small for another countertop.
We always did our best to use as much of each slab as we could. But the small pieces still ended up as waste, in the dumpster or sent off to recycling to be crushed into road fill.
Watching beautiful stone go that way was heartbreaking. We didn't want to keep doing it.
A second life
So we started making things from the small pieces. First came cheese boards and cutting boards, then trays and organizers, and we kept going from there.
That's how our quartz cheese board began: reclaimed quartz, cut from stone that would otherwise have been thrown away.
From boards to furniture
Somewhere along the way, furniture design became a new passion for us. Coffee tables, side tables, and dining tables, each one cut and finished by hand.
Making custom stone furniture in Chicago, one piece at a time, is now one of our favorite parts of the job.
Why it matters
01
Less waste
We work with the material that's left over after custom countertops, so more of each slab is used and less ends up in the dumpster. Sustainable stone, done simply.
02
One of a kind
Every piece comes from a real slab, so no two share the same veining. What you get is yours alone.
03
